Essential Oils For Transitioning Back To School

I head back to school on Tuesday and I can hardly believe I’m about to start my senior year of college… When people warned me that these 4 years really fly by, they weren’t kidding. It feels like yesterday that I was a nervous little freshman moving into my first dorm with a mix of complete terror and unmeasurable excitement. Looking back on the past 3 years I’ve seen how much I’ve grown and changed, all of the lessons I’ve learned, all of the friends I’ve made… it’s truly unbelievable that in one short year (more like 9 months… AHHHH), I’ll have to leave the place that shaped me into who I am today. UGH I’m so sentimental and now I’m getting really sad.

Okay, switching gears so I don’t start crying. ;)

I know that heading back to school can be stressful and nerve-wracking because it’s difficult to get back in the groove (at least it is for me). Once I’m back in the groove of juggling school, work, working out, leading my sorority, blogging, cooking and trying to maintain somewhat of a social life, I’ll be golden, but l

l then I’ll definitely be focusing on the little things to make life easier, calmer and more enjoyable.

My favorite ways to do this? Incorporating more meditation before bed (even if it’s just 5 minutes!), filling my space with all the candles and twinkle lights I can, sipping on tea to keep me calm and using essential oils.

Ever since I was little I have been obsessed with this one lavender essential oil spray, but never truly used any other oils until I stumbled upon Real Oil!

I’m no expert on essential oils, but I truly do believe they work for me, especially during stressful times. By breathing in the aromas, these oils can promote brain functioning, and are thought to promote whole-body-health when applied to the skin.

Here is how I’ll be incorporating these essential oils into my life to keep the back-to-school craziness at bay:

  1. Ginger: The scent of ginger can calm upset stomachs, so this will definitely come in handy when I’m experiencing all of my stomach issues. My stomach definitely acts up more when I’m stressed, and the beginning of school is a very stressful time for me.

  2. Zen: I may just take a bath in this one. ;) I’m going to be needing ALLLL the zen-ing out as I work to find my normal balance at school. This will be great to use on days I know are particularly packed and during my meditation practice at night. I tend to work myself up in stressful situations, but I’m slowly learning to just breathe through them, because stressing out never helps. This will help me find that calm place faster!

  3. Immune Boost: Just thinking about all of the germs I encounter at school makes me want to be sick. Okay, slight exaggeration, but I definitely get sick more often at school because of how many people I’m constantly around (and, yup you guess it, all of the stress). My immune system is probably going to go into a bit of a shock when I head back, so I’ll be using this to keep me healthy and well!

  4. Muscle Soothe: This roll-on essential oil has been a complete dream during marathon training. As I hit my longest mileages yet (22 miles I’m coming for you!) in training when I get back to school and then the full marathon, I’ll be rolling this on like it’s my dang job. On many of my long-run days I’ve been carrying it around in my purse so I can apply throughout the day! Marathon training has been AMAZING so far, but I definitely need to at least be able to walk to class. ;)

As the last couple of days fade away MUCH too quickly at home, I can’t help but feel a tad bit anxious. I know I’ll be fine once I get into the swing of things when classes start, but the anticipation is always difficult for me. I should probably go breathe in some “zen” to help with that. ;)

What are YOUR favorite essential oils that keep you balanced?!
