PALEO TURMERIC GOLDEN MILK COOKIES
I can’t even remember a time when anything turmeric wasn’t trendy as heck, but I don’t even want to think about a time pre-turmeric. It’s just too dang good. Especially good FOR you. So yes, while turmeric is super trendy and “in” right now, it’s trendy and “in” for a good reason (and it’s also been utilized in naturopathic medicine for over 4,5000 years… so we’re actually all really late to the game). And these golden milk cookies are the PERFECT way to easily incorporate it into your diet.
So what’s the hype? Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which has antioxidant properties that help protect our healthy cells. It ALSO has strong anti-inflammatory properties, which is a big reason why I love incorporating turmeric into my diet. Short-term inflammation is normal in the body and plays a role in protecting our bodies against infection and other complications, but chronic inflammation is not normal or beneficial. Having chronic inflammation means your body is always in that heightened state, even when there is no infection or injury to protect against, which can cause damage to your body. To put this into context, IBD is a form of disease classified by chronic inflammation in the digestive tract. I have ulcerative colitis which is a form of IBD, so having anti-inflammatory agents in my diet is crucial. Like see you LATER inflammation, turmeric (and these golden milk cookies) is here to save the day!!!!
Turmeric is actually pretty hard for the body to absorb so it’s super important to have black pepper when having turmeric to get all of the benefits. I know what you’re thinking – black pepper in cookies?! No, don’t worry, I still value taste when it comes to my recipes. I didn’t add black pepper to these golden milk cookies, but they are still full of healthy ingredients and you’ll still reap some of the benefits of the turmeric!
I absolutely love having healthy cookies on hand that work perfectly to fuel me (and my sweet tooth) any time of the day. And call me crazy, but I really (like really) enjoy eating my baked goodies straight from the freezer, so I keep my freezer stocked at all times!! I love topping these golden milk cookies with nut butter and enjoying alongside a hot cup of tea.
As always, make sure to let me know if you try these! I’d love to see what you think and see how you’re fueling your day in a golden way.
